In Devon, on the way back from the Beautiful Days Festival on Monday 23rd August - holiday snap of the Source of Inspiration.....

The totally bewildering
ending to the gig was down to the following sequence of events:
1. Kevin was told we were to go on at 10.45 and do an hour's set.
2. The DLC team rang up the Venue to check, and after consultation
amongst the Venue's organisers, were told we'd go onstage at 10.45
and finish 11.30/11.45.
3. George says that during the soundcheck the soundman mentioned
bands playing 40-minute sets, but as we'd been told our set would
be 45 - 60 minutes, assumed he was talking about the other 2 bands.
4. At the beginning of Deadly Loving Care, Linden's nice
new radio microphone stopped working. He assumed the battery had
gone, and with George's help swopped it for Ceri's. George tested
the radio mic, it worked again, and he gave it back to Linden.
5. Although it was patently obvious DLC were about to do another
song, the stage lights & PA went off and some truly horrible
recorded music started up. We couldn't communicate with the pit,
or with anyone else, as the PA was off , and we didn't know what
was going on.
6. It subsequently transpired that the soundman was of the opinion
that we knew we were supposed to be playing a 40-minute set, that
he'd given us warnings 10 and 5 minutes before the time was up,
over the monitors, and that he thought we overran on purpose.
He'd switched the radio mic off deliberately. The fact was, we'd
been told differently about the length of the set, we didn't hear
either of his warnings (Ceri heard a faint mumbling but assumed
it was something about the radio mic) because the monitors hadn't
been working properly throughout the set, and WE NEVER OVERRUN
ON PURPOSE. We know how to round off a set to everyone's satisfaction,
and would have done that, despite ending up with a shorter set,
if we'd heard the warnings. And if we'd been able to do
the rest of the set, we'd still have finished by 11.30.
7. We weren't able to resolve this lack of communication with
the soundman afterwards because he upset Barney by handling his
beloved (and valuable) drumkit carelessly, apparently on purpose
because he was cross, and then started swearing at us for overrunning.
ROCK ' N ' ROLL, EH...?

Band
photos from Riverside Club 24th June and Brandon gig 14th July
now in the Gallery. Fans' Pages, & pics from the Twist, soon.
Once
again we have cause to thank our faithful followers for faithfully
following us, this time all the way to Brandon on Wednesday. The
event was, as Ceri put it, intimate, in a smallish bar
with a stage the size of a drum-riser, but nice atmosphere, and
scary moshpit including Ray complete with broken leg. The following
poster was to be seen around the venue, and was later yoinked
in great numbers by the DLC entourage:

Thanks to our hosts, Deadlug, er, leg, who were excellent as usual.
There will of course be photos onsite soon, of the band and in the Fans' Pages - bear with us, there's a bit of a backlog with pics at the moment but hopefully they'll all be in the Gallery sometime in the next few days.
Thanks to the noble
Coachload who supported us at the Twist, and apologies to those
who would have liked to come but couldn't make it due to the short
notice. We were well pleased with the way the gig went, and hope
to play there again in due course. Pics onsite soon.
Good to see so many
of you at the Ipswich Music Day - cheers for defying the weather.
Sorry that a) Ceri's guitar joined the proceedings 2 songs later
than everything else - bod in charge mysteriously omitted to soundcheck
the guitars, and it sounded fine through the stage monitors so
we didn't realise anything was wrong. And b) our set was cut short
so you had 3 songs less than you should have done. This was because
the band before us, King Billy & the Marvelous, just wouldn't stop. The stage
crew were pissed off because they apparently couldn't do anything
about it. Then we were pissed off because we were co-operating
with them and they cut our set short, so, sorry about that.
Anyway, never mind, you were ace as usual, and our audience was
BIG.

By the way, no you can't have our new Derrick & the Signpost banner, neither is it for sale, we want to use it again.....
Thanks to everyone who
turned up on Thursday 24th, despite exams, football, lack of money
and waiting for the free gig this Sunday..... Ace mad moshpits
again, notable for Ray's wheelchair*, and very strange support
band due to the lack of most of Fat Alice - cheers to Rob Gisby
for risking life and street cred by joining with DLC to form an
almost entirely unrehearsed covers band..... Pics onsite soon.....
